A New Direction: Website Update

This site has been somewhat stagnant in the last year, and I apologize for that, but in part it’s been because I wanted to focus on preparing to take things in a somewhat different direction. I’d like to begin to do more in-depth dives into specific topics, including absolutely as much information as I can find and giving detailed sources.

The most viewed pages on this site are those covering the family members of the principals, so since that’s what people seem to be interested in, I will be making longer posts giving more detail on the siblings, parents and ancestors of the Franks, Leopold and Loeb families. Other subjects I plan to cover are:

  • The supernatural myths surrounding the case
  • KKK reactions in 1924
  • Leopold and Loeb’s careers as wax figures in museums and travelling circuses
  • How specific reporters covered the case
  • Comparing and contrasting quotes as they were given in various papers
  • More detailed looks into fictional versions of the case, including quotes from reviews and interviews with the writers/directors/cast members

I’m also thinking of gathering together lists of sources that would help people who want to do their own research, perhaps one on the history of the Joliet-Stateville prisons, or the policework that went into solving the case.

These posts will begin on January 1st, 2022 and will be posted on the 1st and 15th of each month from then on.

I’m not quite sure yet if I want these posts to be purely factual lists of information, worked into a narrative, or a mixture of the two.

If any of the above sounds interesting, unnecessary or if you have any suggestions for other posts you’d like to see, please let me know! I’d like this to be a collaborative experience based on what other people are curious to know which can hopefully fill gaps that may exist about these topics.
