Wish List

There are some published materials I haven’t been able to find, and if you happen to know where to find something or would be willing to share them with me, I’d be very grateful and would give you a shoutout for it, if you’d like.

Fiction

If you know of any fictional accounts which I have not included on my Fiction page or if you have written something inspired by Leopold and Loeb yourself, please get in touch, I would love to hear about it.

Documentaries

–Infamous Murder: Premeditated Murder (2001)

This little documentary aired as part of History Channel’s History’s Mysteries Infamous Murder series and was paired with the Ruth Snyder case. Only about 10 minutes was spent on Leopold and Loeb. In the UK this episode was released under the DVD title: Ultimate Crimes: The World’s Most Infamous Murders: Driven to Kill.

-Perfect Crimes? (2000)

A History Channel episode, half the time is spent on Leopold-Loeb, the other half on D. B. Cooper.

–Crímenes del siglo XX (2007)

A Mexican documentary including a large number of other killers as well.

Magazines

-‘Sterilization’ in Official Detective Stories, Feb 1935

This article posits the question: if Leopold and Loeb had been sterilized, would the murder have happened?

-‘Nathan Leopold – 29 Years Later‘ in the magazine: Focus On People, Life, News, Pictures, Feb 1953 vol 3 no 2.

Newspapers

If you know of any newspapers with unique coverage (as in, they sent their own reporters rather than using a wire service), please let me know. Papers I’m looking for in particular are:

-Chicago Daily News, Edwin Lahey byline, January 28, 1936

In the halls of journalism there is a legend that Lahey began his article about Richard Loeb’s murder with the byline: “Loeb, the master of the English language, today ended his sentence with a proposition.”

I have looked at copies of The Red Streak and Final Edition of this paper and have not seen this supposed byline, so I’m beginning to doubt it exists at all. If you can prove me wrong, I would be delighted.

-Chicago Evening American, 1924

I have looked at two copies of this, the one stored in the Chicago Public Library and one in Springfield’s Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Both are fairly bad quality and while serviceable, many of the articles are difficult or even impossible to read. A clearer copy would be much appreciated.

I’m also completely missing May 24-26th, 1924 and all of July, 1924.

-National Insider, March 2, 1975

I’ve seen it mentioned that this tabloid had a very inaccurate double page spread on the Leopold-Loeb case on this day.
